In February’s issue of the BBC Wildlife Magazine I have an article published on Sumatran Orangutans. The article and images are about the Sumatran Orangutans and their plight and I hope that this amazing magazine and its following helps these great apes and those fighting to keep them alive. Ive had the pleasure of joining these guys many times over the years and this is a great tribute to them all.
Everything you see today with my wildlife photography and love of wildlife has a reason and a beginning. I’m very proud that I have this article with my images in a magazine that has a historical past and meaning to me and my life. The article is also dedicated to those guys I’ve shared time with in Sumatra over the years that put their lives on the line to save these great apes and to those great apes I left behind that I promised I would help their voices be heard on a wider audience.
When I was a young child I had a Saturday job in a local paper shop that my late mum worked in, she knew I had problems with my reading and so use to buy me the BBC Wildlife magazine to help me with my reading. She knew I loved looking at the pictures and wildlife, and the deal was I read parts of it to her to show my reading was improving and then she would continue to buy this for me each month.
Wildlife has been a massive part of my life and still is. I now use my camera to express what I see in nature and show the real beauty of the animal kingdom that we have to look after and care for now more than ever. Over the years I have managed to keep many nature books I had as a child and these photos are of those very early issues of BBC Wildlife magazine from that Saturday job in the mid 1980′s
Thank you to the BBC Wildlife team for putting this article together which will help these crucially endangered apes and their forest homes to reach a wider audience around the globe.
